A design inquiry, or RFI - Request For Information, is a formal question (document) addressed to the developer, designer, inspector or other parties present at a construction project. The purpose of such an inquiry is to obtain clarification, or clarification of specifications, drawings or materials.
Explanation of project documentation
The RFI makes it possible to obtain precise explanations of documents, drawings, specifications or other elements of the project. This eliminates any ambiguity and makes the decision-making process more transparent and efficient.
Correcting errors and inaccuracies
In complex construction projects, errors, omissions or conflicting information are inevitable. The RFI provides an effective tool for reporting such problems, allowing them to be quickly rectified before they affect the schedule or quality of completion.
Documenting information and decisions
The RFI process not only supports ongoing communication, but also serves as a record of decisions and changes to the project. It is an important piece of documentation that can act as contractual collateral in case of future disputes or conflicts.
